Dear President Obama,

 

With complete understanding of the necessity to stimulate our economy and without regard to the type of stimulus that will be used, i.e. tax cuts or spending; we at The Wieland-Davco Corporation would like to express our concern that any stimulus package now working its way through Congress and ultimately being signed by the President, will contain protectionist trade language. This language commonly referred to as, ‘Buy American’, sounds patriotic and reasonable on the surface but the underlying retaliation that we will receive from our foreign friends will be unmistakable and quick. The Wieland-Davco Corporation is a construction management firm that completes projects throughout the Western Hemisphere including Mexico, Canada, Argentina and the Caribbean’s. We are very concerned that our trading partners in these respective countries will seek opportunities to exclude us from bidding on their projects, if in fact our country has done the same. Please take this into consideration as you debate and formalize the final stimulus package.
