The Wieland-Davco Corporation Selected to Construct Michigan Dental Association’s New Meridian Township Headquarters Building
LANSING—October 2, 2008—Michigan Dental Association (MDA) officials today announced plans for a new 26,675 square foot headquarters building to be constructed in Meridian Township. Joanne Dawley, DDS, president of the 5,500-member association unveiled the plan.
“The Michigan Dental Association has been in existence since 1856 and is the oldest professional association in Michigan, and the oldest state dental society in continuous existence in the country,” said Dawley. “It is important that we maintain a presence in the Lansing-area and we look forward to our new headquarters building.”
After a competitive bidding process between six pre-qualified general contractors, MDA selected The Wieland-Davco Corporation as its General Contractor.
According to Drew Eason, the association’s executive director, the $4.2 million building will be built on 3.1 acres on Okemos Road at Coyote Creek Road. “The MDA is looking forward to its move to Okemos and having a positive influence on the local economy. The new, modern facility will allow us to work more efficiently and better serve our membership and the public,” said Eason.
The two-story building will feature a red-brick exterior and will complement surrounding office buildings. A portion of the building will have space for meetings and dental education seminars.
Construction will begin in early October and the project is expected to be completed in June 2009. The architect is Neuman Smith, of Southfield.
“We’re very excited and honored to be awarded this project,” said Craig Wieland, President of the Wieland-Davco Corporation. “Our corporate headquarters is just four miles away, and we appreciate that MDA was able to run a fair bidding process that also resulted in a mid-Michigan general contractor being selected.”
The Wieland-Davco Corporation is celebrating its 50th year in business. Although it has regional offices in Florida and Louisiana, Wieland-Davco’s corporate headquarters is in Lansing, where most of its 90+ employees reside. Most recently, Wieland-Davco also completed the new headquarters for the Greater Lansing Association of Realtors in nearby Delhi Township.
Senior Project Manager Matt Getchell will lead Wieland-Davco’s efforts, while Scott Mason will serve as site superintendent. James Styka will serve as the Assistant Project Manager, and Donna Olney as Contract Administrator.
The MDA and its subsidiaries, MDA Insurance and MDA Services, have 52employees.
